Hello, we understand that the lines in sai are wiggly. 

If you are in windows, please kindly follow try the following steps to see if it works.

Firstly please log out the driver and close all the software you are running and anti-virus programs. Then you may click into c:windowssystem32 and c:windowssystem64 to see if there is a file “wintab32.dll”, and finally try to delete it and install the latest driver from the following link to see if it helps.

Few questions. First, want exactly is pen pressure and what does it help with on art? And how do you get your lines to have point at the end, instead of it being “nubby”? Sorry in advanced

Pen pressure is something you can use in your digital art if you have a drawing tablet! The most well-known line of tablets are Wacom, but I have a Huion H610, which is this:

If you draw using something like that, the stylus mimics the varying pressure levels you can get when you draw with pens & pencils, thus making it easier to draw digitally than if you were to use a mouse.

My lines are pointy on the ends because I vary the pressure in every pen stroke, like I’m letting the stylus just glide off the tablet. Plus, I make sure my brush’s “min size” is set pretty low, which guaratees a pointier line finish:

Here it’s set for 5% which is what I’ve had in on for ages. Nice and pointy lines, right?

And here I cranked it up to 52%, which makes for more “nubby” lines as you can see. I can’t really remember if there’s a similar trick in Photoshop cus it’s been so long since I used it to draw, but you can get pretty pointy lines there as well. I just use SAI because it feels smoother to draw with and nicer to use.

Hello. I suggest you may try it without the driver installed and to see if the problem still exists. If the tablet can work fine with your computer without the driver, it means it is a driver issue. Therefore, you may reinstall the driver after the previous driver was completely deleted.

Dear Eric, your post about the review of the Huion tablet inspired me to purchase it, so thank you! I currently use photoshop for drawing, but I think it takes a toll on my laptop in terms of storage/usage/something. What do you recommend?

I’m sure you’ll enjoy the Huion tablet 🙂

As far as Photoshop goes there are a few settings that you could change in the preferences to make it run a little bit smoother or maybe use an older version such as CS2 which is for free now and has all the features you’ll need. It also helps to close Skype because it uses lots of memory lol.
A good alternative to Photoshop would be SAI, which is lightweight and runs very fluidly or Manga Studio, which has some great tools.

In my opinion SAI is the best for sketching and line art, Manga Studio is close to it but it’s interface is a bit too heavily packed with things I don’t use. Photoshop is still the best tool for painting.

After more than one month’s training about original picture and illustrations in a cartoon game, I finally have my own work. I draw the picture for a long time, and meet many problems. But I finally finish it with the help of a famous cartoon teacher.

1. I draw several sketches according to impression drawing; it is ok only with outline. Try more, and give yourself more choices.

2.Choose wet side brush, setting is as follow.

3. Choose the second sketch, considering element association, arrange, and reiteration. Then decorate and distinguish the picture with dot, line and surface, this step is easy. Keep the good part, remove the bad part and try more.

4. Change another brush after deciding the general design. Distinguish the original color generally and explain the dot, line and surface which were drew by wet side brush. Draw out the main components and pay attention to density combination on design. I feel that the composition is not very stable when I draw here, so I remove the ribbon on the shoulder and add it on weapons. Make the ribbon around waist elegant and then change her hair.

5. Fold the color when the black and white drafts painting are almost finished. Determine the general color trend according to the character’s feeling.

6. Keep on enriching the color, and add contrasting colors.

7. Began to adjust some places where do not look good. I feel the face is big, so modify it with liquefy tool, and dash out hair and hair accessory and draw again. Change the layer of left sleeve lightly.

8. Perfect the details again, add special effects, finish.

9. Draw the three views at last.
